Update: Body of 17-Year-Old Found in George County

We are learning more after search crews found the body of a George County teen who apparently drowned in the Pascagoula River.

The body of 17-year-old Jakeob Mullen was recovered from the Pascagoula River at approximately 9:42 p.m. on September 3rd.

Mullen was initially reported as missing earlier that day after he went under water in the Pascagoula River near Mixon Lake.

According to the George County Sheriff’s Office, Mullen initially went under water on the north side of the sandbar and his body was later recovered about a quarter of a mile from a spot on the south end of the sandbar.

The incident was officially ruled an accident with no further investigation at this time.

George County Sheriff Mitchell Mixon gives more details. “Everyone needs to use extreme precaution if they are going to swim in the river. There’s been so many, as in this case, where you’ll be walking in three- or four-foot-deep water then you hit a drop off and all of a sudden, it’s twenty feet deep, all of a sudden.”

George County Sheriff’s Department tell us to keep our thoughts and prayers with the Mullen family and to always be cautious when swimming in open waters.
