Race for U.S. Senate ramping up in South Mississippi

The race for the U.S. Senate seat is heating up in South Mississippi. Republican incumbent senator Roger Wicker is facing off against democratic challenger Ty Pinkins, who spent part of Thursday evening in Pass Christian meeting with South Mississippi voters.

When asked about how he hopes to succeed in a historically republican state, Pinkins expressed his strategy. “We do what we’ve been doing for the last nineteen months, getting all around the state, visiting all 82 counties, just like counties down here in Harrison County, Pass Christian and listening to voters. Listen to the things that are important to them, and making sure we come up with solutions that are going to benefit people’s lives. Whether you’re in Harrison County, Hancock County, Jackson County, DeSoto County, or in Hinds County, it’s all about listening to community members and I think that’s what they’ve been missing at the federal level and that’s why I’m running for this United States Senate seat.”

Pinkins also expressed his excitement over Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate heading into next week’s DNC Convention. “”Like many democrats I’m excited. I’m over the moon excited about Harris’s candidacy, her running mate and what we’re going into in the next 82 days as we get ready to wrap this election season up. November 5th is going to be full of fireworks and I am looking forward to it, specifically in Mississippi.  We’re about to do something special and unique in our state. People outside our state sometimes look at us at think that we can’t do what they think is impossible.”

According to recent polls, incumbent senator Roger Wicker is leading the race but this has not prevented Pinkins from campaigning across the state.

We will keep you updated as the race progresses.
