Fire gets out of control in Long Beach
A fire gets out of control in Long Beach after authorities say a man burning trash started the blaze.
Around 4 this afternoon, the fire department received a call of a brush fire on Beatline Road between Daughtery and Lovers Lane.
Firefighters say two engine companies worked to put out about 20 acres of fire and it took them about 45 minutes to contain the blaze. Long Beach Assistant Fire Chief Griff Skellie said, “We have an ordinance here in the city. You’re supposed to come by Central Fire Station and get a burn permit before you burn in your yard or on your property. That lets us know where you are and what you’re doing and it also gives us a chance to let you know if the weather conditions are in favor for burning at that time.’
Assistant Chief Skellie says today was too windy to burn trash.
