D’Iberville investigating shootings that left one dead

D’Iberville Police are investigating unrelated shootings that happened Thursday night, one of which resulted in a man’s death.

Chief Shannon Nobles said officers responded to the 11000 block of Gorenflo Road about 8:20 p.m. for a report of gunshots. Once there, officers found 53-year-old Alton Eugene Parker of D’Iberville, deceased in the roadway from a single gunshot wound.

According to investigators, Parker had an ongoing dispute with a homeowner on Gorenflo Road — to the point of threatening the homeowner in the past.

Interviews were conducted and surveillance from the area was viewed, showing that the victim arrived at the residence with a firearm and threatened the homeowner. That’s when the shooting occurred.

Before arriving at the home on Gorenflo Road, an officer was sent to an area near Rodriquez Street and Automall Parkway regarding a report of a person in a blue truck threatening another driver. When the driver continued on Automall Parkway, the person in the blue truck — later identified as Parker — fired two shots at the vehicle, missing it and the driver.

Police were able to determine that the two shootings were unrelated.

No charges have been filed at these incidents and the investigation is ongoing.
