Juneteenth Gala at Pelican Landing in Moss Point

Over in Moss Point the Juneteenth celebrations got underway with a gala at Pelican Landing.

This gala is the first of its kind in the area, showcasing stunning outfits featuring African-American ancestral tribal clothing.

The gala was presented by CROSS Incorporated, a nonprofit providing resources for the citizens of Moss Point.

The event celebrated African American freedom, culture, and heritage with live music, soul food, art, and more.

Two high school students received scholarship funds from the nonprofit organization as well. CROSS Inc. Director Donna Joseph said, “Be about change and progress. That’s the message here today. Promote the vote is the thing. So, we wanted to make sure that we got the message out, that it’s important, your voice is important. What Juneteenth means to me is that we have an opportunity, not only to reflect on the past, to be a part of the change for the future.”

The holiday commemorates the freeing of slaves. Juneteenth will be celebrated Wednesday, June 19th across the United States.
