Citizens of Moss Point voice their opinions on city development at City Hall meeting.
The Community Development Department met with the citizens of Moss Point to discuss what should be developed in the city during the 2024-25 fiscal year.
The meeting was held at city hall on Thursday evening and allowed residents to voice their opinions on how the more than $100,000 invested into community development should be used.
“Rather than making decisions on how that money should be spent best to aid the citizens of Moss Point, we like to get a lot of public input. So, this affords them the opportunity to provide us that input,” said Director of projects and grants Tom Hewlett. “We have a 5-year plan and we’re in year 3 of it. Some parameters have been set as to where the intent is to spend the money but specifically how is totally up to us. We can decide and they have an opportunity to give us input on that.”
A variety of topics were discussed, including economic development, public services, affordable housing, as well as community response to disasters such as hurricanes or the tornado that struck the city about a year ago.
“Things related to how we might be able to encourage and promote economic development, improve opportunities for housing, and community resilience. How do prove our capacity to prevent catastrophic damage from storms or bounce back quickly if we do have damage,” said Hewlett.
