MBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Flowood

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Flowood Police Department that occurred on Tuesday.

Officers with the Flowood Police Department received a call regarding a subject who was attempting to break into units at Shadow Lake Apartments on Park Circle Drive on Tuesday afternoon.

Flowood Police arrived and the subject initially ran away and officers gave chase. That’s when the subject, identified by MBI as 27-year-old Preston Banks, presented a weapon to the officers, who then fatally shot him.

The involved officers did not receive any serious physical injury. This information is preliminary and subject to change.

This is the 19th officer-involved shooting this year.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office
