National Day of Prayer ceremony in Gulfport
Today thousands of people across the country came together seeking God’s blessing on America. It’s the 66th annual National Day of Pray. Today’s weather didn’t stop people from uniting for one spiritual purpose in Gulfport.
Dozens of people from multiple denominations gathered beneath the awning at Jones Park, united under one vision: to support the power of prayer and the role it plays in the community.
The event featured prayers led by several local clergy, bringing the community together through prayer for things like the military, education, and healing.
Some community members tell News 25 they came to pray for unity in our nation. Gulfport resident Lee Floyd said, “Not only as a nation, but as a church itself and our great city and that those lines that have been dividing us, whether cultural or historical or color based, that that would be gone and we be a united force for good.”
While some encourage prayer and its benefits to our children and youth. Gulfport resident Darlene Floyd said, “Salvation for all the kids, the young people, that’s just out there. The fighting, the rioting, all of that.”
The event at Jones Park was just one of thousands of gatherings across the nation for the 66th annual day of prayer. National Day of Prayer Coordinator Jane Long said, “When I think that just about every small town in the United States of America there’s somebody somewhere at noon praying for our nation and the multiplication of that, I just can’t imagine what God can do with it.”
