Ocean Spring alum and Mississippi State freshman Avery Weed contributes to SEC Women’s Golf Semi-Finals
Last year, WXXV had the honor and privilege of going to the links and featuring a two time individual and team state champion for our Student Athlete of the Week segment. As if she wasn’t already impressive enough, Avery Weed is continuing to prove her dominance at the collegiate level.
Yesterday, the Mississippi State Women’s golf team teed off in Belleair, Florida for the SEC Quarterfinals, which later that afternoon turned into the Semifinals!
Ocean Springs alum and now Bulldog freshman Avery Weed cruised to victory in her first match against Kentucky, gaining the initial point for Mississippi State in the quarters that ultimately led to the semi finals. If you thought her day was done after that, you’re quite wrong.
Weed then faced LSU in the semi’s and was down for the majority of the battle, but if the Tigers learned anything it’s to never count her out. She nailed a 30-foot putt for birdie to secure the second point for the Bulldogs to one-up the victory. Her teammate, Izzy Pellot, would then hit a putt and land the Bulldogs a spot back in the SEC finals.
Avery and the rest of the bulldogs will face Texas A&M this morning on SEC network as they battle for the conference championship title.
Best of luck to Avery and the Lady Bulldogs!
