04/28 Ryan’s “Rain-Forest” Friday Night Forecast

It may feel like a rain forest out there right now, and sadly, that won’t be changing before the end of the weekend. Expect steadily increasing winds from the South to pool more and more moisture in the area, leading to another muggy night in the upper 70s before changes move in Sunday night.

These changes will arrive in the form of a strong cold front by 6 pm Sunday night. Right now this system will bring a “slight” severe threat to South MS, but this could both increase or decrease before the front arrives. The upper level features with this system are conducive for heavy rains, small-to-medium hail, and damaging straight-line winds. The tornado potential is very low, but not zero so please remain “weather aware” through the late afternoon and evening Sunday night/Monday morning. Current rain estimates are between 2-4″, so flash flooding and coastal flooding will be more areas of concern, especially during high tides.

Once this system moves through, high pressure will begin building in and we’ll see a few cooler and drier days, though we’ll only fall into the upper 70s. With the exception of a rainy Wednesday, next week is looking considerably sunnier and less humid than this one.
