Four injured in apartment fire in Biloxi

Four people are injured after an early morning apartment fire in Biloxi.

The incident happened at the Southwind Apartments. Biloxi Fire crews responded to the scene around 4 a.m.

The two adults and two children were able to escape from the building on their own, but suffered burns and smoke inhalation. Biloxi Assistant Fire Chief Jason Davis said all four were taken burn centers for treatment. The children were believed to be pre-teens. One adult was taken to Mobile and the children and another adult were taken to New Orleans, he said.

One of the children was later transferred to a burn center in Texas, Davis said.

The apartment unit was a four-plex, Davis said and the other three units were not occupied. However, all had fire, water and smoke damage, with the occupied apartment being severely damaged.

One firefighters arrived on scene, it took them about 20 minutes to get the fire under control, Davis said. The fire is believed to have started in the living area, but the cause is still under investigation.
