Pascagoula library to close April 1 for renovation project
The Pascagoula Public Library will temporarily close at 4 p.m. March 30th to undergo a planned, extensive renovation.
The project is supported by the city and funded by the Jackson County Board of Supervisors, with contributions from Pascagoula. Allred Stolarski Architects, PA of Ocean Springs is the firm handling the renovations. The project is expected to take a year or more. A satellite branch in the city will open soon. Pascagoula Public Library will have details on that later.
“We’re excited to announce this renovation project that will improve the library’s infrastructure and enhance the experience for our patrons,” said Angela Stewart, the library director. “While we regret the inconvenience of the closure, we encourage our patrons to visit one of our other locations and take advantage of our online resources. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the newly renovated Pascagoula Public Library.”
During the closure, no fines will be accrued for Pascagoula Library patrons. However, the Pascagoula Library book drop will be closed on April 10. After that, materials may be returned to any branch library in the Jackson George Regional Library System. Patrons are encouraged to visit the Ina Thompson Moss Point Public Library or any other JGRLS library. For more information, they may call 228-769-3060.
The library building, which opened in October of 1986, has a capacity of 120,000 books, a 90-plus parking lot, and a 200-seat meeting room with moveable walls. When renovations are complete, the Jackson County Law Library can be accessed by the public during the day, along with the art gallery.
The library will also have a separate area to house its growing genealogy and local history collection. The upcoming renovation will provide a much-needed new HVAC system, elevator, ceiling/floor tiles, carpet, and paint throughout.
Patrons may access their account information, reserve materials, and use free electronic resources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by visiting www.JGRLS.org and entering their library card number and PIN. Additionally, they can follow the library on Facebook or Instagram @JacksonGeorgeLibrary for more announcements.
