Dreamworks Gymnasts compete in region 8
Dreamworks Gymnastics Academy had a few of their gymnasts compete in the region eight regionals over the weekend. One gymnast came out on top, winning first place all around in level seven.
News 25’s Taylor Rubach caught up with the girls at Dreamworks on their success and even did some flips of her own.
Making sure to stay focused and toes pointed, three gymnasts were preparing for the championship meet that qualifies them to move to the next level.
Over the weekend, these gymnasts from Dreamworks Gymnastics Academy competed against seven other states for the region eight regionals for levels six, seven, and eight championship. Dreamworks Co-owner Christie McMillian said, “They train here and they also train at the partner gym in Pass Christian, Brooklyn Center. They put a lot of hours in and it was nice to watch their hard work pay off.”
The hard work paid off in the long run, enough for level seven gymnast Ayral Jones, thinking she barely made it by. “I was happy. Well, when they called me up I didn’t think I did good because they were not first, second, and third, but then when they called me up for first I was like ‘oh my gosh.’”
“It’s pretty impressive. It shows that we are able to take a talented kid and bring the best out. It’s a really good feeling,” said McMillian.
Dreamworks Co-owner Heather Clower said, “She’s just a true competitor and a true athlete and just a really smart gymnast, very aware of her body.”
Ayral says winning the championship motivates her to charge her way into a college gymnastics team like the LSU Tigers or Florida State to follow in the footsteps of her Olympic role models. “I look up to Gabby Douglas. I’ve looked up to her all my life and Simone Biles and so they went to those kinds of colleges so that’s where I want to go because I know I can do big things.”
