Over 1000 members attend Delta Sigma Theta Statewide Cluster in Biloxi

This weekend, over a thousand members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated gathered for a statewide cluster at the Mississippi Coast Convention Center.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast and Moss Point alumnae chapters hosted this year’s cluster.

The theme was a throwback to the 80s and 90s. Collegiate and alumni members from many ages gathered for sisterhood, fellowship, and to discuss community efforts nationally and across the state.

One locally focused community effort this year’s conference focused on was assisting Moss Point tornado victims by donating resources to the River City. Moss Point Alumnae Chapter President Angela Haynes said, “We did an assessment of what was the needs of those residents, those community members. And then the other thing we did because we are about social action and we’re about business. We made it a competition to see which chapter in the state of Mississippi would provide the largest financial donation.”

Mississippi Gulf Coast Alumnae Chapter President Searcy Taylor said, “We do workshops, we have fellowship and we have vending. We just have fun enjoying the sisterhood and learning and growing in Delta.”

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded in 1913 on the campus of Howard University and has been at the forefront of empowering African American communities through education, service, and sisterhood.
