2/8 – The Chief’s “Warmer, More Humid & Breezy” Friday Eve Morning Forecast
Low level moisture continues to increase with dew-points rising into the upper 40s or tower 50s. This warming/moistening trend will continue today. The region will remain under an active southwesterly flow aloft and with plenty of Warm Air Advection, cloudiness will be around for much of the short term period. That said, I will continue to keep rain chances out of the area today. Sure, a light shower or here there will be possible, but most of the precipitation will be well upstream along a frontal boundary that should stall within the southwesterly flow generally from MEM to near Austin, TX. Outside of this, temperatures will continue to warm today and again on Friday with Friday being the warmest.
Friday Night and into Saturday not much change in terms of the ongoing weather pattern from the short term. The area will continue to remain under active southwesterly flow aloft and strong low level WAA will continue. The frontal boundary looks to remain in place generally north and west of our area with much of the heavier rainfall residing closer to that boundary. A surface low will develop as a stronger impulse rides to the northeast over the mid-south late Saturday.
The large scale disturbance finally begins to slide eastward going into the 2nd half of the weekend. This will allow for a strong push to the cold frontal boundary on Sunday. As this occurs another impulse will move northeast over our region bringing a higher chance of precip across the forecast area. Periods of showers and maybe a few thunderstorms will develop Sunday. Behind the front northerly flow and Cold Air Advection will develop on Monday. This will keep temperatures quite a bit lower than the prior days. Instead of 70s we’ll likely see temperatures only in the upper 50s or lower 60s on Monday and Tuesday. Overnight low will drop again into the 30s/40s respectively by Tuesday night as surface high pressure moves in and skies begin to finally clear after a fairly cloudy period in the short term and through much of the longer term as well.
