Phi Theta Kappa students at MGCCC unveils new book to teach children local history

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is teaming up with Lynn Meadows Discovery Center to teach children about the Coast’s rich history.

Saturday, students from the Omicron Alpha chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at MGCCC’s Harrison County campus will be unveiling their new children’s book ‘Sandcastles and Seawalls.’

The book highlights the architecture and design of play along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Students from the Phi Theta Kappa Honor’s Society will be reading to children and hosting a book signing tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.

Charli-Ana Posey tells us the inspiration behind the book. “We’re required to do an honor and action project through Phi Theta Kappa and it basically is a research question and we developed that research question and took advantage of our 26-mile man-made beach on the Gulf Coast and basically researched, I mean we used everything, every resource we could think of and put it together and decided to make a children’s book.”

Knight Abbey is printing the books and they will be donated to local school libraries, public libraries, and other non-profit organizations for distribution.
