Blind Date with a Book
Most people wouldn’t go looking for love in a public library but this year, Hancock County Library officials are hoping readers wanting to spice up their literary love life will start in the book aisle.
The Hancock County Library System’s Blind Date with a Book program kicked off Wednesday. The program focuses on matching readers with new books but they won’t get to see the cover, just a few adjectives or “personal ad” describing it. A survey is included with each book. The goal is to get people to try out something different. Hancock County Library System programming coordinator Nel Ducomb said, “We have all genres represented and that’s the fun part of this is that we’re hoping that people will perhaps pick up a book based on those three adjectives that describe it. It might be fast-paced, it might be witty, and it could be suspenseful. That’s all they know about the book because you know how we all judge a book by the cover, well in this case, you can’t.”
People who have ventured on a blind date and returned the survey are entered for a chance to win a prize. A wrap-up of the program will be held Monday, March 21st at 5:30 p.m. at the Bay St. Louis-Hancock County Library.
