SNAP benefits increasing in October
The USDA is increasing SNAP benefits for 2024 — which starts with the new fiscal year October 1.
The average increase is $34 a month for a family of four — about 3.6%. That increase does not, however, offset the rise in food costs over the past year.
The supplemental nutrition assistance program is designed to help low income households keep food on the table.
According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, “SNAP reduces hunger by as much as 30% and is even more effective among children.”
