8/18 – The Chiefs “Oppressive Heat Returns” Friday Morning Forecast

This morning the main feature across the area continues to be the very dry air overhead. A stationary front is to the north of the area this morning along with a secondary cold front north along the MS/Tennessee border. As for today temperatures this morning have started off warmer than yesterday and that will continue throughout the day with high temperatures about 2 degrees warmer. We will continue to enjoy plenty of sunshine today into Saturday. Saturday looks to be similar to today with temperatures in the mid to upper 90s with triple digit heat indices. As for Sunday temperatures are similar however there is a 20% chance of a shower or thunderstorm to bring relief.

Currently the National Hurricane Center is watching three areas of disturbed weather in the Atlantic and one closer to home in the Gulf of Mexico. As of now we are focused on the one that will move in to the Gulf. It will do so as an easterly wave and could aid in much needed tropical downpours Monday into Tuesday. This will also cool temperatures down to the low 90s on Monday. Temperatures warm back quickly on Wednesday as some spots could even reach the century mark with expected heat advisory/warning. Thursday brings typical afternoon summertime thunderstorms to the area at 30%.
