Back Bay Mission provides services for homeless population during extreme heat
Multiple homeless people are dead across the Gulf Coast due to extreme temperatures in recent weeks.
Four to five of these deaths were regulars at Back Bay Mission, a resource for those living in poverty. Back Bay Mission provides those in need with a food pantry, a housing rehabilitation center, and a recreation center where anyone is welcome to cool off and hydrate.
These services, along with access to showers, washers, and dryers, are free to anyone in need.
Client Services Director Sarah Smith at Back Bay Mission is sharing tips for how to stay cool and safe this summer. “Find shaded covered areas, definitely get the cold neck wraps for around your neck. Stay hydrated, we’re seeing a lot of dehydration, we had some people come in the other day with heat exhaustion. If you can get Gatorade, electrolytes, and try to replenish things you’re losing from your body.”
Back Bay Mission is holding a town hall on homelessness next Tuesday, August 22nd.
