Shuckers INF Tyler Black promoted to AAA; 3 Biloxi players win awards
BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV) — Biloxi Shuckers infielder Tyler Black is moving up and moving on following a promotion to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds on Sunday.
The fifth-ranked prospect of the Miwaukee Brewers, Black has been a menace for opposing pitchers all season long, with 14 home runs and a single-season franchise record eight triples across 84 games.
His 47 stolen bases are the most in Double-A this season, and the most for any Shuckers player since Johnny Davis swiped 52 in 2017.
At the time of his call-up, Black is top five in the Southern League in eight different offensive categories, and is a consensus Top 100 prospect.
In other Shuckers news, top-ranked prospect Jackson Chourio made history on Saturday with his 17th home run of the season, the most for any Double-A teenager since Delmon Young hit 20 for the Montgomery Biscuits in 2005.
The 19-year-old Chourio has also been named Brewers MiLB Co-Player of the Month, after hitting .430 since the MLB All-Star Futures Game.
Right-handed pitcher Carlos Rodriguez also takes home Brewers MiLB Pitcher of the Month.
Finally on Monday, Wes Clarke takes home Southern League Player of the Week honors for hitting five home runs, tied for the most for any Double-A player over that span, and tied for second most in the MiLB.
