Shuckers to host Grand Slam Night celebrating people with disabilities
The Shuckers are on the road in Pensacola this week so Ground Zero Blues Club hosted a watch party with the goal of reminding people of a special event coming up at MGM Park next week.
August 11th will be ‘Grand Slam Night’ at MGM Park. ‘Grand Slam Night’ is meant to celebrate those with disabilities across the Coast and give children and adults alike in an inclusive space to enjoy the ballgame.
This game will include people with disabilities throwing the first pitch, singing the national anthem, and more.
The Shuckers even had a specialty jersey made just for the occasion representing all types of disabilities.
Mika Hartman, who hosts Buddy Walk each year, says the event is inclusive to all. “The best way that you can get to know our children is to come participate in activities, look at them as every other child. They just want to be loved and they just want to have a good time with you. And what we need to start talking about is joining in. I love this saying, ‘With us, not for us’. And that’s a really big thing. Come walk with our children, don’t do it just for them. Come be a part of their group, too.”
The specialty jersey will be up for auction with the proceeds going to Buddy Cruise to give a families a wonderful cruise experience.
Bidding for the jersey will be on MILBauctions.com starting today and will end at the conclusion of August 11th’s game against the Tennessee Smokies.
