Biloxi PD hosting third annual Citizen’s Police Academy

The Biloxi Police Department is hosting its annual Citizen’s Police Academy for Harrison County residents free of charge.

The academy is a multi-week class taught at the Lopez Quave Public Safety Center starting August 23rd. Classes are two hours with sessions once a week on Wednesday evenings.

A class limited to 25 people will have classroom-based teaching, offer ride alongs with officers, and will partake in hands-on demonstrations with police equipment.

The program is designed to give citizens insight into how the department serves the community.

Captain Tom Goldsworthy of Biloxi PD offers some insight into the academy. “What a patrol officer does on the street, constitutional law, what the investigators do you know, it’ll go into crime scene. That’s one of our biggest you know, everybody wants to see the crime scene and stuff because of the TV shows. And you know, Investigator Young just puts on a great crime scene that’s hands on.”

To apply for the Citizen’s Police Academy, you must be at least 21 years old and be a Harrison County resident. Contact Captain Thomas Goldsworthy at 228-385-3033 or by email at tgoldsworthy@biloxi.ms.us. Registration ends August 18th.
