Ocean Springs officers receive pay raise

The City of Ocean Springs has raised the pay for public safety officers.

The Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen approved budget amendments to increase the salary scale and to give mid-year raises to sworn officers and firefighters.

The budget amendment included an increase to starting pay for patrol officers from $41,900 to $45,700 with an annual increase.

The amendment also adjusted the pay scale for sergeants, lieutenants, and captains.

This adjustment will increase the longevity of officers on the force. Lt. Steven Dye said, “This puts us more on a competitive base with our surrounding agencies. As retention wise, this will help us keep officers that we’ve had 3 and 4 years that sometimes seek employment other places due to a higher pay rate. This will help us retain those officers and let them grow with our department.”
