Latin Night returns to the Coast
Get ready to move and groove as Latin Night returns to the Mississippi Coast!
After a long hiatus, the community is ready to embrace the rhythms of salsa, bachata, and more.
At DTC Studio in D’Iberville, the Latin dance community is gearing up for an unforgettable experience. Studio Owner Daniel Thomas said, “It’s more than just dancing at a regular club. It’s about people connecting on a deeper level through movement.”
Latin Night returns August 10th at Ground Zero Blues Club in Biloxi. DTC Studio instructors Mariana Canales and Blake Mitchell are passionate about sharing Latin dance styles with others and ready to have Latin Night back. “I used to love going to Latin Night. There is nowhere to go for traditional salsa and bachata. So, I used to love going to Mosaics. It was so much fun. Then COVID happened and it stopped. So, I started going to New Orleans because I missed it so much.”
Mississippi Heroes Executive Director Katherine Sutton said, “Mosaics, when Arturo Barajas was still alive, used to have Latin Night every last Friday of the month. There’s a great Latin community in the surrounding areas. We’re just really excited to try to bring it back to the Gulf Coast.”
Latin Night celebrates culture and brings different communities together. Dance Instructor Percell St. Thomass said, “There are so many different cultures here. They don’t mix and they don’t mingle. When I travel around and teach, I try to get people excited about embracing differences in culture.”
The nonprofit Mississippi Heroes will use the event’s proceeds to construct wheelchair ramps. “Our nonprofit celebrates caregivers. We just wanted to do something a little more impactful.”
The event is August 10th at Ground Zero Blues Club in Biloxi. For early birds, there’s a Latin dance class offered from 8 to 9 p.m. The cover charge for the event is $15 per person.
