Deceased identified in deputy-involved shooting in Harrison County

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving Harrison County Sheriff’s Department that occurred on July 13th, 2023, around 9 p.m. near 27648 Highway 53 in Gulfport.
Deputies were responding to a call regarding a burglary in progress when the involved subject pointed a weapon towards responding officers.
The subject received fatal injuries. Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer identified the man as 38-year-old Jeremiah Ladner of Saucier.
He died of multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced at the scene, Switzer said.
Ladner had been in and out of Harrison County jail six times since 2011, mainly on drug and weapons charges.
The last time was earlier this year when he was arrested in March on charges of grand larceny and arson. Those charges were bound over to the grand jury.
The deputies involved did not receive any serious physical injuries during this incident.
MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence.
Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
This is the 21st officer involved shooting this year and the fifth in South Mississippi.
