Frida Festival at Mockingbird Café in Bay St. Louis
Frida Kahlo fans broke out their decorative costumes for an annual festival in Bay St. Louis.
Frida Fest at Mockingbird Café celebrates the life of one of Mexico’s most revered and well-known artists.
Most of Kahlo’s masterpieces were created while she was bed ridden with polio. Her self-portraits frequently depict her own agony, personal traumas, expressing her physical and mental scars while bolstering her well-known unibrow and head garments in her art.
Mockingbird Café Manager Laura Hurt says the costume contest is always a big hit at Frida Fest. “We have our look-a-like contest where people will sign up and we do charge $10, but that is a donation to the Woodside Wildlife Rescue because Frida Kahlo loved animals.”
Frida Kahlo reminds others that there are infinite possibilities beyond our physical limitations.
