Home invasion ends with police chase and gunfire
A man is now in police custody, after a Sunday night home invasion led to a police chase and gunfire. Police say just before 10pm Sunday night, 42-year-old Brian McLeod of Pascagoula forced his way into a home on Navaho Avenue with a handgun. The residents of the house were able to escape without injuries and contact the police.
The suspect fled the scene in his pickup truck, leading to a police chase down Cherokee Drive and Washington Avenue. After reaching a dead end, police say McLeod then turned his truck around and drove straight toward an officer stopped in the roadway.
The officer fired his gun three times, with one of those bullets hitting the side of the pickup truck. The suspect finally stopped and surrendered, when more police arrived.
Lt. Doug Adams with the Pascagoula Police Department says the officer who fired his gun is now on paid administrative leave, according to police, pending an investigation to make sure proper procedures were followed.
McLeod has been charged with burglary-home invasion, fleeing law enforcement, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
