Cal Ripken State Tournament under way in Pascagoula

If you’re a baseball fan, Pascagoula is the place to be this weekend as kids from around the state compete for a title.

The Cal Ripken State Tournament began this morning as baseball players from six to 12 years old hash out who will be crowned champion.

A total of 55 teams from all over Mississippi are competing at the Pascagoula Sports Complex with a chance to represent Mississippi on the regional level and then hopefully nationals.

The tournament is a three-day weekend affair with the players adopting a championship mindset. Pascagoula 12-U team player T.J. Thomas said, “That’s my goal for this tournament, make it to the state championship. My friends, we were all practicing at the field. We got up, I text them, I told them to come to the field and we started practicing without the coach just to get better. That’s the mindset you need to have.”

For those interested in watching the games, tickets are $10 on the Go Fan app. Search ‘Pascagoula Youth Baseball.’
