Picayune football’s Jamonta Waller commits to Florida

The Picayune football program is fresh off its second consecutive state title and even though the Maroon Tide is losing 5A Mr. Football Dante Dowdell, now at Oregon, the back-to-back defending champs should be just as dangerous again this year, if not more so.

Multiple division I reinforcements on the way, starting with five-star defensive end Jamonta Waller who committed to the University of Florida yesterday.

Waller picking the Gators over nine other schools in his top 10, those being Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas A&M, and Penn State.

Waller is the first five-star recruit from the six Coastal counties in 15 years and is the top-ranked player in the Magnolia State, according to both ESPN and 24/7 Sports with more than 20 DI offers.

The rising senior was every quarterback’s worst nightmare in 2022, finishing second on the Tide with 106 total tackles and first with 11-and-a-half sacks to go along with a forced fumble, two recoveries, and an interception en route to the program’s second straight gold ball.

He’s also been invited to play in the All-American Bowl on NBC.
