MDOT updates on large road projects across the Coast
We’re getting an update today from the Mississippi Department of Transportation on several large road projects.
The biggest one is over in Jackson County where MDOT is spending more than $200 million on improvements to Highway 57. That project includes repaving and grading nine miles of the highway, stretching from I-10 to Vancleave.
Highway 57 will also be widened from two to four lanes from I-10 to Gautier-Vancleave Road to help ease congestion along the hurricane-evacuation route. That project should wrap up in 2027.
There’s also a $5 million project underway to repair or replace traffic signals damaged by Hurricane Zeta at 42 intersections along Highway 90 from Bay St. Louis to Biloxi. That work should be finished by next spring.
Another $3.4 million will be used to repair or replace traffic signals and other equipment at some 51 intersections along highways 49, 605, and 67 as well as I-10 and I-110 in Harrison County.
A $7.6 million project to repave Highway 63 in George County from Sally Parker Road to Highway 98 is underway now and should be done this year.
In Hancock County, a $6 million project to pave a five-mile stretch of Highway 90 from Rifle Range Road to Lower Bay Road should wrap up this summer.
