The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi receives $1M grant

The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi was recently awarded a grant for $1 million.

The grant comes from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Restore Act Fund and will help with completing the museum’s campus.

The million-dollar grant will allow the museum to finish its grand staircase, the galleries, and to incorporate a pavilion.

The museum is set to receive the funds this fall and construction will start in the winter. Once the site is finished, the museum will be certified as an official Frank Gehry Project.

Frank Gehry, a world-famous architect, designed the museum. Executive Director David Houston said, “Brick and mortar money is very hard to come by and that’s why the Coastal Restoration Fund is so important. The goal of it is to build or rebuild infrastructure and having the final gallery and the building completely finished will help project our image and that will bring more people, put heads in beds, and we will be having some additional conferences.”

The project will go through three phases and will take six to eight months to complete.
