Community helps Bay St. Louis residents after house fire
Bay St. Louis business owners Bart and Mary Brooks lost their belongings in a house fire that happened last Sunday.
While working at their business, Ms. Mary’s Old Town Snowballs, the couple received a call that their house they just moved into a couple of months before was on fire.
The fire was caused by the fireplace, leaving the house mostly destroyed and the Brooks family with barely anything to call their own.
The couple and their two children have been staying in hotels. They do not have the extra money to replenish all they have lost or had insurance on the house.
The Brooks family had to close their business down temporarily, but they hope to open back up soon.
The community started a GoFundMe to help the family during this difficult time. “We didn’t ask for anything, we didn’t want anything.” “It’s hard to ask people for help and everyone called and wanted to help us, we said oh no, we don’t need anything, but a friend of mine did start a GoFundMe page for us and it has been incredible. I just can’t believe all the people that has reached out to help us.”
