Waveland Elementary students cheer on Bay High soccer as they prepare for State Championship

Waveland Elementary showed their support for the Bay High boys soccer team today as they get ready for the 4A State Soccer Championship this weekend.

Students were shouting and waving posters and signs, cheering on the team as they paraded through the halls at Waveland Elementary.

The soccer players handed out beads to the students as coaches collected handmade signs before heading to another school to celebrate their success.

School officials say it is important to include the parade at the school to set an example to the younger students. Curriculum Instruction Strategist Jennifer Acosta said, “I mean, it’s a great accomplishment. They had to go through many games to get to this point. District, we had to accomplish that part first and now we’re headed to state hoping that we can accomplish our big final title victory.”

Bay High plays North Pontotoc at 2 p.m. Saturday in Brandon for the 4A State soccer title. The Tigers have earned back-to-back trips to state. Bay High last won a soccer championship in 2012.
