Sea to Supper campaign underway in Biloxi
From the sea to the dinner table, coastal shrimpers are combatting hunger in South Mississippi and statewide.
Mississippi Commercial Fisheries United partnered with the Extra Table organization and Catch Together nonprofit to provide shrimp to food banks as part of their ‘Sea to Supper’ campaign.
Fifty partner food banks in Mississippi will receive the shipments of shrimp which were caught off the Mississippi Coast in Gulf waters.
Tomorrow in Biloxi, Extra Table will donate thousands of pounds of shrimp to Loaves and Fishes which in turn will help local residents who may struggle with food insecurity. Dawn Ross with Mississippi Commercial Fisheries United Dawn Ross said, “Think about it, every time we have ever had anything happen to us, especially Biloxi, here on the coast, Pass Christian, Ocean Springs, we always come together, and so this is just a little way that we can give back. Families are hurting right now, they’re losing their jobs, nobody knows what’s going to happen.”
Other local businesses who helped in this effort include M and M Processing, Jerry Forte Seafood, and Pass Purchasing.
