Shuckers returning to Biloxi in 2021
As far as professional athletes are concerned, perhaps none were hit harder by the coronavirus pandemic than minor league baseball players.
The Biloxi Shuckers missed out on an entire 2020 season, but thankfully it’s just one season.
Today, the Milwaukee Brewers extended a minor league invitation to the Biloxi Shuckers to remain their Double AA affiliate for the foreseeable future.
As the MLB’s redevelopment of its minor league system comes to a close, the Shuckers are one of four farm teams working with the Brew Crew, alongside the low A Carolina Mudcats, high A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, and Triple AAA Nashville Sounds, a reunion six years in the making.
Milwaukee’s relationship with Biloxi is the longest of the four, dating all the way back to 1999 when the franchise was known as the Huntsville Stars.
The move has worked out pretty well on the field, having made it all the way to the Southern League championship series three out of the five years the team has been on the Gulf Coast.
