Mississippi AG Commissioner renews call for gasoline relief

Mississippi Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson is renewing his calls to state lawmakers to suspend Mississippi’s fuel tax through the end of the year.

The request comes after the IRS announced it would temporarily waive penalties for using red-dye diesel fuel on public highways.

That relief runs through December 31st, but does not necessarily eliminate the underlying federal tax.

Gipson says most Mississippi drivers won’t benefit from the federal action and are still paying 24 cents per gallon in state fuel taxes.
