News 25’s Gabby Cox went to see how the family of one of the victims was doing during this difficult time.
On August 21st, a fatal boating accident plagued Biloxi Bay, claiming the lives of two. Sixty-year-old Nadine Sekul was one of them, leaving behind her partner Omar Vasquez Jacquet. “Very difficult times, my partner was in a boat accident Friday night with her friend Tommy. She passed away. While the accident happened she was carrying my dog.”
Sekul’s cousin, Gia Knight, explained how much she meant to her and how close they were growing up. “Nadine was my cousin. She and I lived across the street from each other for about five years and we were with each other almost every day. We either talked or text or saw each other.”
Omar and Nadine’s dog, Luki, was also on board during the accident, but is still missing. Omar is hoping to find Luki so he can still have a part of his family. “I need to find in this difficult moment since I lost her because she was my everything, too. She was the most important person in my life and Luki is part of her so if they can find my dog, it’s like I can have Nadine back in a way.”
With the tragic passing of their family member, the family is doing what they can to stay positive.
The Department of Marine Resources is still investigating the incident.
