Governor Reeves discusses impact COVID-19 has on agriculture

Governor Reeves touched on the important role agriculture is playing during the coronavirus outbreak.

Today, he was joined by Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson and Extra Table Chairman Robert St. John. They spoke about the impact the coronavirus has had on growing and harvesting food in Mississippi.  Agriculture Commissioner Gipson said, ‘If anything we have more food then we know what do with right now. The restaurants are shut down and the schools closed, that eliminated about half of the market of the domestic market for American agriculture. So, our farmers ought to be thanked first and foremost for continuing to work during this crisis even at great loss. The prices have dropped for farm commodities to the point there is certainly going to be long term recovery from that, but our farmers are still farming and I appreciate every one.”

Also mentioned during the conference, Governor Reeves said some Mississippi casinos could be open as soon as Memorial Day Weekend.
