Harrison Central JROTC Academic Team advances to national competition
Four JROTC students at Harrison Central High School are gearing up for a trip to Washington, D.C.
This morning, the JROTC Academic Team was recognized for winning the opportunity to compete in the JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl National Competition.
This comes after the team advanced levels one and two in 2019, out of the 1,670 schools and 31 teams who competed nationwide.
Harrison Central’s JROTC Academic Team is also the only team in Mississippi to advance to the national competition.
Senior Army Instructor Nathan Jones says these cadets work very hard. “The academic bowl consists not only of JROTC curriculum material, but also of the core curriculum from high school, so math, science, English, and history. So these cadets are not only superior cadets, they’re superior academic students in the school. It’s about the quality of kids we get in here, the inspiration we give them and how they achieve at their highest level. It makes me proud to see that they’re really taking it seriously and achieving at the highest level they can.”
The team leaves for Washington, D.C. in June.
