Long Beach Mayor’s Youth Council Bike Donation

Students throughout Long Beach School District will be riding in style this Christmas thanks to generous donations through the Mayor’s Youth Council Bike Drive.

The youth council has been taking donations from the community for about a month. These bikes go to needy or less fortunate students within the district.

This week, starting today, bikes will be distributed through the district to students.

News 25 caught up with the youth council, accompanied by city officials, as they were dropping off just a small portion of the donations to Harper McCaughan Elementary School. Youth council member Julia Meadows said, “I think this is important because it is a way for us to give back and the whole community can come together and help as well.”

Youth council member Marlee Schevers said, “We just thought it was a really good idea. It means a lot to the kids who don’t have the ability to have bikes so we can just raise the money and they can get something for Christmas.”

In total, 100 bikes were donated.
