12/16 – Brantly’s “Severe Storms Tonight” Monday Afternoon Forecast
Very warm conditions today with temperatures expected to reach the upper 70s. This is way above our normal high temperature for this time of the year which is about 61 degrees. We could even reach a record high temperature. The old record is 76 degrees set back in 1984 and we will be very close to that this afternoon.
The Storm Prediction Center has our entire under a Slight Risk for severe weather, which is a threat level two out of five on their scale. The main threat in any strong to severe storms will be damaging wind gusts of 60 miles per hour or more although a brief tornado or two cannot be ruled out. We have already seen several tornado warnings to our west over parts of central and northern Louisiana. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, and make sure you have a way to receive warnings that can wake you up because this round of severe storms will likely move through overnight. Right now the timing from the latest models shows the storms moving in between just after sunset through the early morning hours on Tuesday.
After the rain clears out a strong cold front will push through. There will be a nearly 20-degree difference between the daytime high temperature on Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday, highs will only top out in the mid 50s and winds will be breezy out of the north. Low temperatures will drop into the lower 30s for a couple nights during the middle of the week. A light freeze is possible Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
