Toy Hall of Fame inductees 2019
The National Toy Hall of Fame has inducted its 2019 class.
Matchbox cars, the coloring book, and “Magic: the Gathering” were inducted based on their long-lasting appeal.
The ceremony took place inside the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York.
Matchbox cars first hit shelves in 19-53 and in less than a decade, they were selling 100 million a year.
Unlike Matchbox, “Magic: the Gathering” had trouble selling at the beginning but when it picked up steam, a book series, electronic games, and even a Netflix series were made from it.
Lastly, Mcloughlin Brothers Printing Company got credit for making the first coloring book in the 1880’s.
