#9PMROUTINE: Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers initiative
Stopping home crime can be as simple as getting into the routine of locking up by 9 p.m. and a new initiative by the Coast Crime Stoppers helps remind you to do so.
They are calling it the #9PMROUTINE. This initiative is being put forth by Pass Christian Police Department and Coast Crime Stoppers through social media.
They wanted to start this initiative because in the past few months Pass Christian police say they have seen around 25 car burglaries reported with 100 percent of those being unlocked cars.
It is simple, make sure you don’t leave valuables in your car and that you lock your home once you are inside. Outside lights being on can also be a major preventative. Pass Christian Police Chief Daren Freeman said, “I guess you could call it common sense, but we don’t think about it because everyone has extra-curricular activities with children, like in general. Everyone gets busy with electronics and technology and this is a way to just remind them in the evening time before they settle in to make sure that vehicles are locked and doors are locked and their residence and exterior lights are turned on to deter crime.”
Pass Christian also plans on sending out alerts via Facebook around 9 p.m. as a reminder to residents.
