8/22 – Chris’s “Excessive Heat” Tuesday Afternoon Forecast
The heat continues to be oppressive across South Mississippi as a heat dome is overhead and over most of the country. This afternoon more areas than not reached the century mark in our northern counties. Temperatures will continue to be hot this evening in the upper 80s before dropping off to a overnight low in the upper 70s. If you thought that temperatures were hot today just wait until you hear about near record temperatures on tap for Wednesday. With that being said every where in the southern six counties has the the chance to see the century mark tomorrow, some locations could see even higher temperatures.
An EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING is in effect from 10am to 9pm on Wednesday, this means that heat indices of 110-116 are possible. Folks it is time to practice your summertime safety tips as this is dangerous heat. A Red Flag Warning is still in effect for the area until 8pm on Wednesday so please do not burn.
The upper 90s will continue on Thursday and Friday with triple digit heat indices. Both days have a 20 percent chance of a afternoon shower or thunderstorm to bring some relief to the heat. The forecast does not change much at all for Saturday. On Sunday we will see upper 90s and more in the way of cloud coverage and a 30 percent chance of a afternoon shower or thunderstorm to bring some relief to the heat. A front will move through on Monday and Tuesday elevating rain chances and cooling temperatures to average.
