8/17 – Jeff’s “Humidity Returns” Thursday Night Forecast

Clear skies and still-mild temperatures will be what you experience overnight. Humidity is gradually on the upswing. Friday will be dominated by sunshine and hotter temperatures. In some spots, heat index values will reach the low-to-mid 100s. Heat alerts will not be in place but still be sure to take care if you are outdoors for a prolonged period of time.

The really oppressive humidity we’ve been used to returns in earnest this weekend. Heat alerts will likely be necessary Saturday and Sunday. If outdoors, be sure to take care given how heat stress can set in. Isolated thunderstorm chances along the sea breeze boundary look to be in the picture Sunday.

A tropical wave with potential to develop into a tropical system next week will transit east to west across the Gulf of Mexico early next week. Essentially, there are two scenarios for our area; neither of which bring a high-impact event.

If the system ends up going farther north, it will be weaker overall but affect us more. With this scenario, rain chances would be elevated and marine concerns would need to monitor the forecast. If the system moves farther south, it will be stronger but also more compact. This would keep inclement weather away from the Mississippi Coast.
