6 Year Old Cancer Survivor Leads Mardi Gras Parade

Ryan Wilson, 6, led the North Bay Elementary Mardi Gras parade Friday.

After battling kidney cancer for two years, Ryan was chosen as the Grand Marshal in his school’s parade. Ryan was homeschooled last year, but this year he is healthy and enrolled in first grade at North Bay Elementary. The school raised over $3,000 for St. Jude’s Hospital in his honor.

Kimberly Wilson, Ryan’s mother, says, “He didn’t hardly sleep the last couple of nights, but he’s been good, he’s been excited to be with his friends and the Valentine’s party. He loves a good party.”

Ryan was a little shy for the cameras, but he says his favorite part of the parade was riding and throwing beads.
