6/18 – Sam’s “Feeling Like Summer” Wednesday Evening Forecast

The showers and storms have remained pretty isolated today, at least compared to what we’ve seen over the last couple of weeks. The chance for more showers and storms will be around on Thursday, Friday and into the weekend before we’re expecting to see some changes.

Temperature wise, overnights will remain in the mid to upper 70s while the afternoons continue to see a gradual rise into the low and even mid 90s. Coupled with the tropical dew point, and it’s a recipe for hot “feels like temperatures” across South Mississippi. While we will likely see the heat index around 100-105 degrees, we are not far off from the threshold for a heat advisory which is 108 degrees. If you have any outdoor plans, make sure you have a way to stay hydrated and a way to cool your body off.

The tropics are remaining quiet as well this week, as we aren’t looking at any tropical activity in the Atlantic basin. However, the Pacific basin has had a pretty active season so far with their 5th named storm, Hurricane Erick, now a major category 3 storm with winds of 120 mph, and having the potential to become a category 4 (130+ mph winds) before making landfall near Acapulco, Mexico on Thursday morning.
