5/6 – Rob Knight’s Monday Morning Forecast
The first couple of days of the new work week will remain quiet weather-wise before a wet pattern begins on Wednesday and persists into the weekend. High pressure at the surface extending across the lower Ohio and Tennessee Valleys and into the Gulf Coast states today will move to the east on Tuesday. In the meantime, a broad mid/upper level disturbance will evolve over the Rockies and northern and central Plains through mid-week with embedded disturbances traversing the lower Mississippi Valley and Gulf Coast states through the week.
Initially, the greatest chances for rain will be to the north and west of the local forecast area, but as the week progresses convection coverage will increase across the local area. A frontal boundary to our northwest will sag southeast toward the area by the end of the week and may become nearly stationary over or near the central Gulf Coast region over the weekend. A few inches of rain will be possible in some areas during this extended period with the heaviest rain most likely to occur across southwest Mississippi and east central Louisiana.
