4A South State Championship Game: Stone vs. Sumrall

The Stone Tomcats are playing in their first South State Championship series in more than 30 years and yet it’s not even the biggest story coming out of Wiggins.

On Friday, Gehrig Conard threw a two-hit complete game shutout just two days after losing his father and Stone Athletic Director Kevin Conard.

Tonight, the ace of the staff got the ball for the first time since that emotional night, more than ready for an encore.

Stone hosting Sumrall in game one of this best of three series.

Sumrall comes through with back-to-back RBI doubles in the top of the sixth to win it 2-1 and those are the only two scoring frames of the entire game as the Tomcats now face elimination in game two.

In the 5A ranks, Pascagoula starting on the road at West Jones for game one and taking this one on the chin, 9-1 loss at the hands of the Mustangs.

Back on the Coast, Resurrection Catholic hosting Stringer. Resurrection Catholic wins 14-2 in five innings.
